strengths:
he is loyal and brave and he acts on logic and strategy.
his major strength is alice and the bond he has with her.
he is intelligent and he doesn’t give himself enough credit for
his self control and ability not to just kill every human in site when he is thirsty.
weaknesses:
while alice is also his strength, she can be a weakness because for her, he would do anything. he isn’t confidant in his own ability to remain true to their lifestyle and when he cannot understand things or be in control of himself or a situation it frustrates him greatly.
habits/quirks:
he generally looks to alice as kind of a security blanket – when he is anxious, she is the first thing he looks for. he tends too look at things from a military perspective and sometimes he doesn’t always factor in emotions which is ironic considering he is an empath.
fears: loosing alice is the biggest one, followed by doing something to hurt her and loosing the rest of his family.
personality: (NOTE: okay so, because he is a canon, some of this is taken from wiki and edited by me and some of it has been added in from other sources by me, but its hardly plagiarism if we’re taking it from a book anyway, so here it is :] )
Jasper could be mistaken for cold because of his highly analytical and military mindset. However, his relationship with Alice displays his warmer side. The fact that he suffered depression after his years in Maria’s service suggests a strong sense of conscience and grief over his perceived wrong-doings. When he was human he was described as being extremely charismatic, and therefore extremely likable. He has also been shown to be a strong and forceful leader through his rapid ascent through the ranks of the Confederate Army. The fact that he is always a soothing presence shows that he wishes others to feel well and at ease, and will do his best to make that occur. Jasper is highly intuitive but also never takes advantage of his miraculous gift, showing that he is not a malicious and chooses not to manipulate others. He could use it to make people feel pain or depression or anger, but he has never tried to use it that way. While the Cullens are gone in New Moon, Jasper studies philosophy at Cornell University. In the opening chapter of the yet to be published Midnight Sun, Jasper is shown as being deeply ashamed of his urge to drain the life from the humans around him. It also shows that he has what could be described as a lower thirst threshold, in that he has trouble controlling his thirst sooner after feeding than the others. He would do anything for Alice, no matter what the cost to himself. He might love and care for his family, but in the end all that truly matters to him is Alice. Without her he was nothing and if something happened to her, his world would crumble and everything he knew would be dead. His heart, any humanity left in him would fail to exist. This can be shown in the way Edward and the rest of the family see Jasper. Who he is is motivated and shaped by his love for Alice.
"Secondly, he's really mostly doing this for Alice. Alice is Jasper's entire life. She is the most important thing in the universe to him, and he would do absolutely anything for her. For Jasper, there would be no limit to who or what he would destroy for Alice. Not that she wants him destroying anything. She's the light side of their relationship–she makes him laugh (and he wasn't much of a laugher before Alice). Jasper is the most "vampire-y" of the Cullens, and, while he's fond of them all, he's not bonded to them the way the rest of them are. The way Alice most definitely is. The whole high school thing really freaks him out. He's trying to get better at being around humans, but it's an uphill struggle." - Edward
Neither Alice nor Edward was surprised by the reception that waited for us at Sea-Tac airport, but it caught me off guard. Jasper was the first one I saw—he didn't seem to see me at all. His eyes were only for Alice. She went quickly to his side; they didn't embrace like other couples meeting there. They only stared into each other's faces, yet, somehow, the moment was so private that I still felt the need to look away. - Bella
He would do anything and sacrifice anyone for Alice. He would give up his family for her and in the end, she is and always has been all that matters. He cares for Bella as much as he cares for the rest of his adoptive family, but it’s harder for him to be around her because she is human. He limits his time with her and when he is around her, he tries to make sure someone else is always around. Just in case. He doesn't trust himself, even if Alice does, and he is always kind of in the mindset of 'better safe then sorry'. However, this doesn’t really apply anymore because Bella is changed but when she was human this was how he viewed it and so its important to add in! He loves his family and he wishes to protect them and always have what it best for them, even if Alice is always his priority. If Alice asked him to leave and never come back, he wouldn't be able to do it. He could do anything else but that, because if she ever sent him away he would destroy himself. There is no life without Alice, no reason to exist without her. He isn't showy about his love for her, neither of them are. He is tuned into the way Alice thinks and he is more about the emotional bond then the physical, even though he is obviously attracted to her in that way also. He is tuned into the emotions of others, but Alice is a whole different level. As Edward put it once, its like they can read minds, but only each others. Their bond is unbreakable and he needs her to continue on in his life.

history: (NOTE: same as for personality)
Jasper Hale, formally known as Jasper Whitlock, was born in 1843 and grew up in Houston, Texas. In 1859 when he was almost seventeen, he lied about his age, stating he was 20, and joined the Confederate States Army to serve in the Civil War. He quickly rose through the ranks, and became the youngest Major in the Confederate Army. Jasper was turned into a vampire in 1863 by a vampire named Maria, when he was 20 years old. Maria was fighting a territorial war for claim on the big cities in the south, such as Mexico City, since larger cities allow for more feeding without being noticed by humans or the Volturi. Jasper was turned because Maria recognized that he was high-ranking in the army, and therefore that he already had some knowledge of combat skills. He was also able to influence people and make people want to follow him. She wanted a strong male vampire who could fight alongside her and help her take over the territory of other covens. When Maria found out about his peculiar ability to control the emotions of those around him, and calm an entire room of extremely volatile new-born vampires, she found him even more useful. Jasper’s responsibility was to train the young vampires and then kill them when they were no longer useful to Maria, usually after about a year when their strength had begun to fade.
He sustaned bites from all the new borns who would attack him constantly. After about a century of this, he grew wary of the lifestyle. An old vampire colleague of his, named Peter, persuaded him to escape from Maria. For a time, he wandered with Peter and his companion, Charlotte, but soon became aware that he was still depressed with so much human sacrifice. He couldn't forgive himself for what he'd done, or forget all the pain and death he had caused. As a result, he ran away and wandered on his own, before he found Alice Cullen, who he later recognized as his true love, waiting for him in a half-empty diner in Philadelphia, where he was sheltering from the rain. She had seen through her visions they would find the Cullens and live there together in relative peace. He has been with her ever since and he would neved leave her. He married Alice and she became Alice Whitlock, though when they are under the pretense of youth she reverts to being Alice Cullen around others.
The Cullens tell humans that Jasper is Rosalie’s twin brother; for this purpose, they both use Rosalie’s surname of “Hale”. Out of the whole coven, Jasper has the hardest time being around humans, due to his untrained upbringing as a young vampire in an army environment. He was not taught control or how to regulate his blood lust. Edward states that all human blood is equally tempting to Jasper, unlike the rest of the family, who can notice the variations in blood scent in different humans. Jasper is tired of being the “weakest link,” and has taken a bet with his brother, Emmett, that in the year after Edward’s girlfriend Bella Swan is turned into a vampire she will kill a great number of humans because of her temper and impatience. This is possibly because Jasper no longer wishes to be seen as the weakest. He is angry with himself for being the burden, the one who cannot stand alone and control himself.
When Edward met Bella and the whole thing started, it was very hard for him. School was hard enough but when she began to be around more and more and she was in his life because she was in Edwards’ life, he did what he could to keep his distance. In no way did he want to offend Bella and his caring nature is proven when Alice needs his help to keep Bella safe and despite how hard it would be, he agrees and stays with her in Phoenix because Alice asked. Bella's birthday party brought back all the old hate he had for himself, all the reminders in his life that he wasn't as good Edward or the others. He hated himself for it, for attacking Bella, for his lack of control. He hates that he allowed himself to be weak and he blames himself for a time when they leave. Upon returning, he is forced to work even harder. The truth is, if he ever did anything to hurt Bella, it would in turn hurt his beloved Alice, which he couldn't stand. He was pretty much ecstatic when she was changed, even if the way she was changed wasn’t ideal and he didn’t like that she suffered. During her change it was particularly hard for him to be around her but now, despite how she is sometimes bitter about how it came about, she in generally one of the people he can count on to offer a pleasant emotional climate.

role play sample: dark!jasper, fyi.
Jasper was pleading, begging. It wouldn’t stop, it would never stop, not until one of them was dead – he was hunt her and rip her apart even if she survived and got away. He needed relief; he needed absolution that it would end. When Edward couldn’t – wouldn’t- give that to him, he knew what he needed to do. He would have to kill her himself. Then, before he could take another step towards the girl, he smelled Carlisle and Emmett, and saw the tall lithe blonde breath through the tree’s and crouch at Ash’s side.
"Jasper, I'm not going to hurt her. I need to stop the blood from flowing - she'll die if you don't let me."
Let her die! Let her find peace and let it be done! He let out a ferocious snarl and tensed, crouching and preparing to lunge. Yes, he loved Carlisle. Loved him like a father, like a mentor, like a friend. Loved him for the life he had shown him, for the sanctuary he had offered Alice and yet that love wasn’t enough. If Ash lived, she would turn and then everyone would be in danger. Carlisle was blinded by his own humanity, he couldn’t see what needed to be done and as much as it caused Jasper pain – ripping, throbbing pain where his heart would have been- if Carlisle got in the way, he would fight him. This had to be done to make people safe, it had to be done to keep Alice safe and Alice came before anyone else. Then, he felt strong – strong, even by vampire measure – lock around his shoulders and was pulled back, grunting as his back hit Emmet’s stone chest with a crack, and he let out a feral sound – agony, fury, vampire.
“EMMETT! LET ME GO!” he roared, above Carlisle’s gentle voice.
“The bleeding's not the problem here. You took too much of her blood, and what little is left is leaving her body or blending in with the venom.”
Then kill her! Why was it in question! It made sense, kill her and end her suffering for the last time! Undo what he had done, end it before it begins! Kill her, or kill me because I won’t stop until she is dead! He screamed in his head, and struggled against Emmett, shoving his fist back to hit his brother and by Emmett’s response, hitting him in the lower stomach.
”Real mature Jasper!”
Then, Carlisle spoke again. He had to choose? He had to decide if she lived or died? How could he ask that? It was simple, it was obvious.
Jasper, don’t do it. You aren’t a monster, you can save her. Let her live.
Don’t do it, my love. You are a good man, let her live, give her a chance to live some kind of life.
Her voice, her wind chime voice, like bells, beautiful. Music. Alice. She was his soul, his conscience and while she wasn’t actually speaking to him, if she’d been here, that’s what she would have said. He was sure of it. He stopped struggling finally, and choked out desperate sound, a moan of defeat. He sunk down, to his knees, pulling Emmett with him who was distracted by his sudden lack of fight, and still restrained by the other vampire, he lifted his head slowly, crimson eyes fixed on Carlisle.
You aren’t a monster.
“Do what you will, Carlisle. Kill her, let her live – do what you will.” His voice was soft, broken, pained again. And he trembled slightly, before closing his eyes and shrugged Emmett off, who seemed to think he wasn’t a threat anymore, and fell onto his hands, and then, onto his side. Bloody curls falling into his face, his expression blank and numb, his eyes dead. He stopped breathing and became still, staring off into the brush that was level with his gaze. There was nothing now, in his mind. Empty. Silence. Not even Alice. Just darkness, just a void. He had nothing to say now, no reason to move. He’d killed someone, endangered his love, his family, and he was a monster. What a lie he had fed himself! That he could be anything else. He was nothing but a killer, a murderer. Unknowingly, he gave of waves of despair and numbness and emptiness. She would live and rise again, Carlisle would make sure of that. And then what? Then there was nothing. Nothing. Death. He wanted death. Forgive me, Alice. If she awoke, knowing he’d broken the treaty, he would go to La Push. For what he’d done, he deserved death. Even if his family wouldn’t give it to him, they would. And then, no one else would have to suffer. Alice would be safe, and while it would hurt her to loose him, she would survive. She was a survivor and they would make her better somehow. It would take time, but in the end, his death would save his soul. Forgive me, Alice. I don’t deserve to love you now.
